Alexandra’s Hotel Room
Savannah, Georgia
7/22/23
Alexandra is sitting on the couch, her daughter Ashlynn and John's daughter Mackenzie sitting across from her. The atmosphere is tense, and both girls seem determined to talk to her about what’s going on between her and John. Ashlynn speaks up first, Alexandra’s determined eleven year old daughter.
“Mom, we need to talk.”
“Of course, sweetheart. What's on your mind?”
Alexandra’s gaze is one of confusion and Mackenzie looks nervous as she speaks up, clearly wanting to upset Alexandra.
“We've noticed something, and we can't ignore it anymore. You and my Dad, you love each other. It's obvious to everyone. We’ve noticed it. Honestly, anyone with eyes could see it. Please be honest with us.”
Alexandra tries to hide her surprise, realizing that they've seen through her attempts to hide her feelings for John. She tries to figure out exactly how to word this to them. She and John still hadn’t said what they were yet. It was clear they had been sleeping together for a long time, and Alexandra wore a BOM shirt.
“Girls, I... I don't know what you mean. Mackenzie, your dad and I are just taking this one day at a time. We haven’t put a label on this.”
“No, Mom, it's more than that. We see the way you look at each other when you think no one is watching. You light up whenever you're around each other.”
“And my dad, he's always talking about you, Alex. He cares about you so much. Even Aunt Meeks can tell you that. I think he’s in love with you. You should just tell him how you feel, before it’s too late.”
Alexandra's heart skips a beat, overwhelmed by her daughter and Mackenzie's observations. She knows they're right, but she's afraid of the potential consequences of pursuing a romantic relationship with John, but to deny it, she’d be lying to not only herself, but them.
“Girls, you have to understand. Your dad and I have been through a lot, and we're both trying to protect each other. We don't want to risk losing the special bond we have. But I do feel deeply for him. I don’t know how it happened. I had told myself not to fall, but I did.”
“But isn't it worth the risk? You both deserve to be happy, Mom. And we can see that you're happiest when you're with John. He makes you happy, I’ve seen the way you look at him. We heard you both when you said goodbye last night. It was so obvious. You both love each other.”
“Yeah, and we're tired of seeing you two pretend like you don't care about each other that way. It's not fair to either of you. I can see that he loves you and he’s happy with you. You don’t try to change him. You’ve accepted him for who he is, club and all from what Meeks has said.”
There was no lie in Mackenzie or Ashlynn’s statements. Alexandra looks into the earnest eyes of her daughter and John’s daughter, feeling a mix of emotions - love, fear, and the desire for a future that includes John.
“You girls are so grown-up and wise beyond your years. I never imagined you'd see things so clearly. I see nothing to change about him. He’s perfect the way he is and anyone who would try to change him isn’t worthy of him, or of you Mackenzie.”
“We just want you both to be happy, Mom.”
Ashlynn smiled at her mom, before she looked over at Mackenzie, hoping the older girl would back her up on what she was saying.
“And we want you to be happy together.”
At that moment, Alexandra was extremely shocked at what she was hearing. She knew that Mackenzie's mother was still out there and still very much a part of Mackenzie’s life. Anything could bring her back into John’s life and before Alexandra could fully give her heart over, she would have to be sure that Mackenzie would be alright with them being together like that.
“Are you sure Mackenzie? I mean, what if your mom and John could still get together? Wouldn’t you still want that?”
“If it was meant to happen, it would have.”
Alexandra takes a deep breath, her resolve strengthening as she looks at the girls. Mackenzie shrugs.
“You know what? You're both right. Your dad and I, we care about each other deeply. And maybe it's time we stopped denying that.”
“Really, Mom?”
“You mean it?”
Alexandra smiles warmly at both of them, feeling a newfound sense of courage and hope.
“Yes, I mean it. I love your dad Mackenzie and I know that he loves you Ashlynn, and I've been scared to admit it. But I don't want to be scared anymore. We'll figure this out together, as a family.”
“GOOD!”
As the girls embraced her they both sounded so excited. Alexandra's heart feels lighter than it has in a long time. She knows that taking a chance on love with John is risky, but she's willing to embrace the possibilities and face whatever challenges may come their way.
“You girls go clean up and get ready to go to dinner. I’m just going to make a quick phone call and we can get going.”
She watched as the two girls started getting ready to go to dinner. She stepped out onto the balcony and looked at her phone. There it was, his photo, the first thing she saw. A smile crossed her face and she pushed the speed dial number meant for him. #1 baby. She waited for him to answer, however it just ran through to the voice mail. She took a breath listening to it, knowing that he most likely was still on the road, he’d get whatever she left when he stopped the next time. Her heart thudded in her ears at that moment, the words catching in her throat. Where was that bravery she had just had?
“Hey John, we need to talk when you get back. The girls helped me notice something tonight. This, what we have, it’s more than just sex, it’s more than just needing a warm body in bed with you. We have something, something real. Something people fight for and don’t always get. We have love, two broken families who fit together just perfectly. I wasn’t really looking for something when you came into my life. But I welcome it, I guess what I’m trying to say John is..”
She took a deep breath, why was it so hard to just say it. It shouldn’t be. It wasn’t but the words again, caught in her throat for no reason and she knew how she felt. She needed to say it before it was too late. He needed to know that no matter what happened now, he had her. She was his.
“I love you. I’m in love with you and I don’t want to shy away from it anymore. It’s you and me. Labels and all. I’m your old lady. Just, call me back when you get this. We really should have had this conversation in person, but I guess I was afraid of what you might say. But I’m not afraid of it anymore. I love you John, see you soon. Be safe.”
She hears the girls coming into the room and she hangs up the phone. She was proud of what she had just done. Opening up to him, she should have done it last night before he left, but she wasn’t sure he was in the right place to hear it.
“Alright girls, let's go to dinner.”
She gave one more quick look at the background on her phone. The image of her and John on his motorcycle. The two girls notice her actions and smile at each other as the scene fades to black.
Bonaventure Cemetery
Savannah, Georgia
7/23/23
A moonlit night casts an eerie glow over the ancient tombstones and weathered mausoleums. The air is thick with an aura of mystique and melancholy. Alexandra stands among the shadows, her silhouette barely visible in the moon's pale light. The moon casts an ominous glow over the tombstones as Alexandra stands, her voice dripping with contempt as she addresses Gabriel Reno.
“Bonaventure Cemetery, a place where the living and the dead intertwine. A fitting backdrop for what awaits you, Gabriel Reno. You see, just like the souls that rest here, your fate is sealed. You're about to face the reckoning brought upon you by the Anarchy Champion, and QUEEN OF THAT GOD DAMNED RING. Ah, Gabriel Reno, the "Radical One" who can't seem to go anywhere without his little band of cronies by his side. How pathetic. It's almost amusing how much you rely on others to do your dirty work.”
She takes a step closer to a tombstone, on it is written the name “Gabriel Reno”, her eyes locking onto the camera with a cold intensity. She smirks, her voice dripping with sarcasm, as her hand comes to rest on the cold stone.
“You see, while you prance around claiming to be some savior, the truth is you're nothing more than a desperate man seeking validation. You need those casinos, those hangers-on, to make yourself feel important. Without them, you're just another lost soul, wandering aimlessly in this world. And your little "friends"? They're nothing more than puppets, pulling the strings to manipulate the outcome in your favor. But let me tell you something, Gabriel, even with all the tricks up your sleeve, you can't escape the darkness that awaits you in that ring. Perhaps you should have taken in the time to visit the magicians while you were in Vegas. When it comes to your mind games, they don’t work on me. I've been watching you from the shadows, studying your every move, your every weakness. You may have a reputation for being ruthless and cunning, but that won't save you from the darkness I bring to this ring.”
As she speaks, the wind howls through the cemetery, adding to the eerie ambiance of the scene. She steps even closer kneeling down in front of the tombstone, her gaze unwavering. She smirks, her voice a venomous whisper.
“I don't need anyone to fight my battles for me. I am the Hellion, the daughter of the Deadman, and I take what I want by my own hand. No friends to lean on, no casinos to bail me out when things get tough. It's just me and my will to dominate. So, go ahead, cling to your little group of enablers. Relish in their empty praises and false adoration. But when the time comes to face the truth, when you step into that ring with me, your friends won't be there to save you from the inevitable. They won't be able to protect you from the darkness that I'll unleash upon you. And when the dust settles, when your little world comes crashing down, you'll have no one to blame but yourself.”
The moonlight casts haunting shadows over Alexandra's face as she stands tall and confident. A raven caws in the distance, as if heralding the impending clash between two formidable forces. Alexandra rests her Anarchy Championship on her shoulder, looking down at it for a moment before her gaze goes back to the camera.
“This title is a symbol of power and dominance, a testament to my supremacy. And you, Gabriel, are just another stepping stone on my path to complete control. So, revel in your delusions of grandeur, Reno, because soon enough, reality will come crashing down around you. And in the end, it won't matter how many casinos you have or how many friends you surround yourself with. You will crumble before the might of the Hellion.”
A distant howl of a wolf echoes through the cemetery, sending a chill down the spine of anyone who hears it.
“When we step into that ring, Gabriel, I will expose you for what you truly are - a fraud, a puppet dancing to the tune of delusion. You think you're a savior, but I will show you that you're nothing more than a sacrificial lamb, offered up to feed the insatiable hunger of the Hellion. The souls that rest in this cemetery know the truth. They've tasted the bitter sting of defeat, just like you will. They bear witness to the havoc I'll unleash upon you. See you soon.. Gabe.”
She pauses for a moment, her eyes locked on an ancient tombstone, the enigmatic epitaph a reflection of the mystery that surrounds her. With that, she turns and walks away, leaving Gabriel to contemplate her chilling words, as the scene fades to black.
