Finding himself on the verge of almost eating pain killers for the beginning of his career to where he is now, Blake Anderson has come a long way. Putting his body on the line as a sadistic crazed walking embodiment of the term “hardcore” to being a brilliant mind behind-the-scenes in professional wrestling, it’s a lifestyle that some can deal with and others haven’t been able to overcome. Now within Outcast Championship Wrestling, they have embraced him and because of that, Blake has been able to achieve what? The opportunity to perform in front of sold out crowds around the world but in what aspect? To stand tall and say this is who I am? Or has it been what it seems to be lately, a man who has done all this to now being the man as he has done in his past, to hold the record for the longest losing streak in professional wrestling?
That’s the question that goes through Blake’s mind everyday as he sits with his closest personal friend and business associate Paul Sinclair and his wife Belladonna Anderson. The three have a bond that can never be broken and in the past, many have tried, but failed as history shows. After time apart to figure this out, the three have gone their separate ways only to find themselves back together within OCW. But just as everything does, what seems like a good thing has faults and in the mind of Blake, he feels that this is nobody’s fault but his own. In a business aspect, it looked great for Paul Sinclair to recreate the group The Dynasty because of what they once were. Now in OCW, The Dynasty seems to have lost their shine as it pertains to Blake Anderson.
Given recent events, Blake has been on a downward spiral with a few gains here and there but mainly losses. Does Blake revert back to his old ways of that man who almost brought down a whole company because of the brutality he would randomly inflict on anyone under that umbrella? Or does he embrace a new way and build a new mantra or new ora of Blake now that he has this new found family with OCW? The reason I ask is this…
Blake is found pacing back and forth backstage at Anarchy before the show is to go live in Worcester, Massachusetts. Given possibly the worst possible positioning in the wrestling business on a live show, it’s the first match on the card or the “curtain jerker” spot. This spot also sometimes dictates on how the rest of the show will go. But back to Blake, who’s being motioned by Gerald Giles. Wait, before how we got to this point was…
[Location: DCU Center stairwell]
Sitting on the floor with his back to the wall and looking at his feet in front of him, Blake’s voice echoes through the stairwell. In his hand is just his phone which he was live on his social accounts speaking about his upcoming match.
[B. Anderson] “You look at me and ask yourself why I do this. Why do I put my body through the torture and pain and it’s because I grew up this way so in order to know me you must go through what I went through and that is why those who dance with me must feel the same. (Running his hand through his hair) I feel that you’re owed an explanation on why the lack of fire. You’re owed an explanation on why this streak of losing continues but I can’t tell you why. Maybe because the passion has left me. Maybe it’s because the others are just that good. Maybe it’s because the person that you see before you isn’t who I used to be anymore. The passion for the blood thirst and bone breaking just isn’t me anymore.
What once was smiles from ear to ear when seeing someone crying in pain and bleeding out because of what happened at my hands, it’s just not there now but maybe a smirk if that. Maybe it’s the years of this business finally telling me that you need to find a different way to be. Now I find myself doing what I do best and that’s being the gatekeeper for good places like this. Two people this time want to make a name for themselves at my expense, yeah sorry but no that’s not happening. Queen E or Queeny or whatever you want to call yourself, you’re a Joker if you think you’re going to walk into this kingdom and proclaim you’re who you want to call yourself. You maybe got away with it where you came from but now you’re here and I’m going to show you how we do things.
Ego, oh man what a name. I’m going to send you back to developmental so you can work on that. Yeah this business, you have to have an ego but big enough that it’s your name? There’s a difference between ego and confidence and I’m confident that you’re going to find out that your ego will get you nowhere except in the hospital which is exactly where you’re going when I get done with you. Now it’s good to have confidence so don’t get me wrong but when you come off as cocky or arrogant or a straight up asshole, you’re going to get something you don’t want and that’s someone like me getting in your face and calling you out on it.
Now I’ve never said that I’m the best or better than anybody but I don’t back down from anything either and if I’m told I have to do this because I’m obligated to do this, then I’m going to do my job the best way I know how and that’s by simply beating the shit out of people because that’s what I do. So if I break your bones then I break your bones. If I leave you in a pile of your own blood then I warned you. I get paid to wrestle and you get paid more if you win and gas and hotel rooms ain’t cheap not to mention food. Man, speaking of (he rubs his stomach) I’m getting hungry so I’m going to see what concessions they got and then I’ll see you two later so in the meantime you can think about what you’re about to get into”.
He gazes off to his side as he sees Gerald Giles, an old familiar face from times gone by. Blake stands to his feet and walks through a door where he then walks up towards backstage interviewer Gerald. Gerald and Blake go back to a time where they worked in various places together and yes, even back then Gerald was the same way he is now.
Gerald: Blake, get over here. (The two shake hands). We haven’t spoken since you've been here but I remember calling your matches in other places. How’ve you been”?
[B. Anderson] “Hey, it’s been years man”.
Gerald: Listen, I know you got a lot on your plate so let me go ahead and get you in front of the camera. (Gerald motions to the cameraman to start recording). Tonight, you’ve got Queen B and Ego tonight.
Blake’s demeanor quickly changes and looks at Gerald with a eat shit and die look before taking the microphone and pushing him out of the camera view.
[B. Anderson] “Gerald, no hard feelings but I got this. Why don’t you go see what they got in catering or go do commentary. Oh yeah that’s right. (He then faces the camera). Tonight everything changes. Tonight I go out there and show OCW and the rest of you exactly why I am who I’ve always said I am and that’s the most dangerous man walking. You want to sit in your boardrooms and twiddle your thumbs on what you think about me because you call me cocky or arrogant or say that I’m nothing more than a guy who puts his body on the line for a hotdog and a handshake? Well concessions are all out of hotdogs and I’ve seen the suits and I wouldn’t shake their hands.
So Ego and Queen E, you want to line your pockets with this? Here we are in a sold out building and I get stuck in a sparring match with two people and one of them can't even come up with a good name, Ego. You were just eating breakfast and looked at that yellow box and said I like Eggo waffles and because they say you are what you eat, you decided to drop a letter and now you’re Ego? Look, this will be easy for you to understand. When you walked in here, there was a sign that said to leave your egos at the door so after this match, I’m going to kick your ass back through that door on your way out, got it?
And you, Queen E, what are you the queen of? Are you expecting someone to roll out the red carpet for you because you’re some kind of royalty? Because you like Cosplay, you figured we all had to suffer through this combination of hot flashes and menopause with you and now you’re this queen of something but you’re stepping into my kingdom where I’m king. And you’re going to learn your place and that’s groveling like the peasants you look down on and surround yourself with to make you think you’re something more than what you really are, a fired theater actor grasping that spotlight before it goes out. Now exit stage and (dramatic pause) scene (he closes his eyes).
Now (he opens his eyes again to look at the camera) seeing how I spoke to everyone in this match, it’s now your turn management. Yes, you, because you’re the one who put this match together. A triple threat really? Is it a punishment because The Dynasty is not as big in the company as you thought?”
It’s Anarchy time which means it’s *mimicking my theater coach* places everyone backstage. Whoa that’s a flashback. Maybe it’s a scene out of every wrestling show you’ve seen with the camera showing the person or people walking from their locker room through the hallway and to the entrance for the arena, so let’s do that. Let’s go to Taylor just on the other side of the curtain standing with Blake, Paul Sinclair and Belladonna Anderson. Before she can talk, Paul cuts her off.
[Sinclair] “Before you even start, let me stop you. Right now Blake doesn’t need to be talking to you or anyone except focusing on what’s about to happen. You see where we’re at right? Just over here (pointing off camera) is the Gorilla Position which means there’s producers and I’m sure management is sitting watching everything going on. They can sit there and witness the beating that’s about to happen because we said it earlier that tonight is going to be a brutal beating because this is what Blake does, this is who Blake is. His focus tonight is to make you and everyone watching believe just like me and Bella believes in him.
So right now he’s in the zone and if you want words after you witness what happens, then we can make it happen”.
Focused and standing at the curtain, Bella gives Blake a kiss on the cheek.
