ATTENTION: Nascar fans we are looking for a celebrity to help raise money for all the local charities in the area. If you know any local celebrities have them come sign up by Wednesday morning for a chance to run an official Nascar lap at the Monster Mile in Dover, Delaware.
Ring Master John Blaze: This is the opportunity I need.
He was only about an hour from Dover as he catches the bus until it arrives at Dover International Speedway. Once the bus comes to a stop and the door opens he steps off. There is only a small line of people waiting to sign up. After a while, he manages to get signed up and decides to do a little tour of the Monster Mile. As he walks around the venue John Blaze vaguely remembers coming here as a kid and just watching the legends Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty go at it on a daily basis. The race was long but intense just like the fire deep inside him. He had so much more to offer EPW and they were going to finally see just what he was willing to do in order to get that shot he deserves. His body was about to be put through a lot of stress and fun all at the same time. The Monster Mile had a way of humbling even the best of drivers but John Blaze was a rookie driver in every aspect of the word. It took him about two hours to walk the entire Speedway as he comes back around to where he signed up and there is a crowd gathered nearby. He makes his way slowly towards the group where he can hear the Nascar official speaking.
Official: Thank you all for signing up today. We will review everyone's file and call five of you in by Wednesday. I know everyone has a busy life so we will be quick about the calls. If you are chosen you will come here for a press conference to introduce who you are and what you are all about. After the conference, you will get a quick training session with a legend of our choice and then you fly solo. You get one lap to dominate and prove that you can tame the Monster Mile. It is not something many can claim and if your lucky we may use you as a fill-in for an event. Sleep well and stay near your phone.
John Blaze had nothing but time for the next few days as he decides to take in a movie at the local mall and a few drinks at a restaurant. He even goes to the casino for a few hours and gives it his best shot but he proves unlucky and he leaves the casino with nothing but lent in his pockets. He takes the bus back to his house but instead of heading to bed, he makes a few calls to get something delivered to him by tomorrow. His confidence clearly showing not realizing that his phone could be silent all day. Once he makes the calls needed he catches a small amount of sleep until morning when he is woken up by a phone call. He misses the call but a voicemail is left as he listens to it.
Hello Mr. Blaze this is a call to let you know you have been selected to compete tomorrow afternoon. Please call us back to confirm you received this message and are able to make it.
He calls them back right away as someone eventually picks up. He lets them know who he is and that he will be at the competition. He hung up the phone standing up and starts swiveling the hips as he breaks out in celebration. The celebration is interrupted by the UPS driver dropping off a package. He retrieves it opening it up and once he realizes what it is he puts the box back together keeping it slightly sealed. It was something for the press conference and the time trial as he tries to enjoy the rest of the day but his excitement level is very high. He eventually manages to get through the day by catching up on yard work. He sleeps and wakes up nice and early the following day. Today was huge for him as he pulls out the box and slips on the suit. He puts a splash of cologne on and catches the bus to the speedway. Upon arrival, there is a huge crowd and some media but he was feeling overwhelmed at this point. He took a deep breath realizing it was no different than a big match. He makes his way to the reserved area and gives his name. The guard lets him in as he makes his way to a seat near a podium. The four other competitors answer their questions as John Blaze stood up walking over and having a seat. There are flashbulbs all around as this was a big deal. He looks around leaning into the microphone to speak.
Ring Master John Blaze: Before anyone ask me a question let me be the first to say that you are looking at the winner right here. I am not just a winner I will be considered an all-time great once I am behind the wheel. You see I wanted to do something that test time. patience and gives me an adrenaline rush. You can see that I love a good challenge and I will always rise to the occasion. I am not here because this is just for fun oh no this is a passion of mine to be the best at everything I do. The person who wants it the most usually gets it and looking around and what I am competing against I would say that this is a wrap and I will see you in the winner circle. Now on to the questions
He points to a reporter in the back.
Reporter: How fast do you plan to go today anyway?
He just smirks at the question as he stands up to speak to the group as a whole including his competition
"Ring Master" John Blaze: Throughout history, there has been the world's largest man. The world's shortest man and even the world's strongest man. Well, I plan to set the all-time speed record for this sport and be considered the world's fastest man, and truthfully there is nothing anyone can do about it. In a few hours, I will get on that track and make every legend that has come here look weak when I am done there will rename this John Blaze speedway and put a statue of me outside for everyone to know about my awesomeness.
He then takes one more question in the front row.
Reporter: Are you worried about this event screwing up the training and timing for your upcoming Ashes 2 Ashes match?
"Ring Master" John Blaze: Honestly, this is something fun for me. It allows me to not think about the match even if it's only ten minutes. I know what needs to be done and I'm well equipped for the match. This is just showing everyone that I will be different from the rest. I will be a threat to them in a goofy way and one of the most creative minds in the business. It won't always mean I'm successful but it does prove that no one will ever accuse me of being boring. Besides one could also argue that this is part of my training because it makes my mind sharper and more determined to push my boundaries on my own without the help of others.
He ends the press conference not following the rules that were stated but he made his own rules at this point as he makes his way to the garage to get a crash course on the car and how to handle all of this. He arrives at the garage of Jimmie Johnson a man who won the Nascar championship multiple years in a row. This would be the guy to show him how to win and why not since it came so naturally to him. They shake hands as Jimmie goes over every aspect of the car and gives him a few words of encouragement.
Jimmie Johnson: I am sure you think this is easy but believe me keeping control of a car giving at the speeds we hit is very difficult so the best way is to clear your mind of everything going on in your life and just focus on driving. I told everyone I was going to train the winner for this event and I always back what I say so the pressure is all on you.
John Blaze scoffs at him as he looks him in the eyes.
Ring Master John Blaze: Listen Jimmy boy I appreciate you taking the time out to help me through all of this but you wasted your time. Believe it or not, Jimmy Johnson I am a former champion myself so I know what it takes to win and I have more knowledge about this sport then you would believe. When I am done with the time trial you will be begging your owner to offer me a contract now take me out to the track so I can watch my competition.
After the small talk both guys get in the car as John Blaze starts to drive the track. Everything was going smoothly until turn 2 and the speed started to rise. He tried to control it but ended up in the grass. Jimmie Johnson laughed at him.
Jimmie Johnson: Good thing your ring master and not track master.
The scene fades with both men walking back to the garage as he failed the time trail.
