The One Out Of Ten
Who will it be?
Wrestling. A sport once ruled by men is currently being taken over and dominated by badass women.
Nine of them right here in EPW. Nine of them I have to go up against in my debut match next week.
More on that later…
-A Short Introduction-
My name is Sarah Hendricks. A former United States Marine. So? Who cares? Being a marine has nothing to do with the combat sport that is wrestling. Agreed. But I thought I should share that for those unaware who I am (everybody). But while I am certainly not as experienced as say a Alexandra Calloway, Synn or even the others in the Fight4 Championship contender battle royal match.
I should not be underestimated. This may be my first televised wrestling match but this isn’t my first fist fight. And I won more fights then I’ve lost.
-Walking In The Park-
~The sun was out. The birds chirped. The children laughed as the adults enjoyed the fine weather. Sarah Hendricks walked through Palmer Park observing her surroundings. Since being honorably discharged from the Marines and her direct training into the professional wrestling career choice following that. She hasn’t had a moment for herself. She enjoyed the silence. Her ‘alone’ time if you will. Was it the calm before the storm?~“Get a room…”
~Sarah quietly muttered to herself as she watched a young couple laying in the grass sharing a kiss.~
“Give me a break…”
~She thought as an elderly couple held hands walking past her down the pathway.~
“Disgusting…”
~She said as she turned her eyes away from a young mother cleaning her daughter's running nose. Sarah found a bench to sit down at. She sipped from her bottled water thinking to herself.~
“Is this what it’s all about? What did I fight for all those years? I don’t regret anything but looking over the people in this country; it just doesn’t seem to be worth it. Best not to think about it, Sarah. Think positive. They all can’t be bad.”
~Sarah looks up to catch two young men playing with a hacky sacks.~
“You know, Darren, you’re right! The Transformers movies are probably the greatest films ever made!”
“Totally, Jacob! I just wish the next ones cast Vin Diesel in them!”
“Sick idea, bro!”
~Sarah sighs.~
“Idiots. I want to hurt somebody. Real bad. Maybe joining EPW was a bad idea. Being paid and praised for fighting other people? And with my past anger problems? Manslaughter isn’t something I am looking forward to. Even if they all deserve it. Keep cool, Sarah. You can always back out. Follow suit with other women your age. Get married. Have children. Work 9 to 5 in an office. Put on a fake smile and pretend everything is fine. I could be like these other women..”
~Sarah watches as two women in sundresses pushing their baby carriages down the pathway in front of her,~
“...I still can’t believe Tina and Josh are selling their home. I think it’s because Josh got laid off at the Waffle factory…”
“...it’s such a shame. That’s why me and John have a monthly budget. It’s smart to save money for the future.”
~Sarah cringes as she takes another drink of water.~
“Nevermind. I’ve tried the ‘love’ thing before. It’s not a real thing from what I’ve experienced. Plus right now I’d rather hurt people than be like ‘the rest’ of these women. Ugh. Besides, it was too late. EPW booked me in a battle royal match on Danger next week. It will not only be my first match in the company but to be honest my first real match of my career. Sink or swim, right? After my old friend and current EPW superstar, Donnie Harris, vouched for me to get this EPW job, it’s one thing to let myself down. But I can’t let him down. I refuse to do that. We have history together and years ago we both moved on with our lives.. For me to come out of left field and randomly ask him for this favor wasn’t easy for either of us. It’s never easy. But like the loyal and caring man he is, he helped me out. The respect I have for him and his success in this industry I cannot put into words.”
~An old man sat down on the same bench Sarah was at. He started using his Tigers baseball cap as a fan.~
“Ahhhh she’s a hot one, my dear! “
~Sarah nodded in his direction.~
“Supposed to go up to 20 today!”
~Sarah smiled and nodded as she stood up and politely walked away down the pathway.~
“He was just being nice but I wanted to be left alone. Or do I? If that were true, why did I get into this wrestling business? Where everyone in it craves the spotlight. Desire the accolades and praise from the fans and their peers? I don’t want any of that. I just want to…”
~Sarah clenches her fists. She takes a deep breath to relax herself.~
“I look at the nine EPW women I am about to show down with on Danger next week. All powerful, strong and motivated women within the company. All of us aiming to get that shot at Ms. Calloway for her Fight4 Championship at Revival in July. The company's one year anniversary extravaganza. It’s a big deal for the winner to say the very least. The fame and fortune in that kind of markee match doesn’t come easy. The ten of us know this.. Or should.”
~Sarah stops to see two little girls playing on the park's swing. Sarah smiled at their innocence.~
“To be young again. No point dwelling in the past as there is no time like the present. Being new to this business I admit I am not very familiar with the women I will go to battle with on Danger. I want to assume a lot of these fighters are getting their start like me next week. But it would be foolish of me to go in unprepared like that. There’s hundreds of wrestling companies I wouldn’t have heard of that I’m sure these ladies dominated at. Smyles, Sabrina, Belladonna, Argyros, Saynt, Emma May, Gomez and Capello. All of them have just as much of a chance to win as I do. From what I’ve seen, these battle royals are unpredictable. But if there was a favorite to win. It has to be Khloe Cox. She is a name I’ve heard of. She is a former EPW Champion. I want to think that there is a possible history with her and both Synn and Alexandra during their runs in EPW. Them both being at ringside could be distracting to Khloe. But it’s best to be prepared for anything. Once I landed in Louisville, Kentucky. I will train extra hard. Focus on what needs to be done to win. Be prepared for anything. And if I win or… if I lose. There is no doubt in my mind that I will make an impression. This is the first step in my career as a fighter. And I will earn the respect of all the people. Whether they like it or not.”
~Sarah stops to see two young adults making out under a tree. They stop kissing and look at each other.~
“...I love you Kyle.”
“...and I love you Michelle. Say, do you want to get Arby’s?|”
“You read my mind.”
~Sarah shakes her head as her fists clenched up again.~
“I really want to hurt somebody. Danger can’t come soon enough.”
-The End-
