A yawn escaped the beautiful blonde's mouth sitting across the table. She pulled a white coffee cup up to her ravishing red lips and took a large sip before sitting it down and leaning back in her chair. Across from her sat Moxie, a mixer bottle in hand containing a protein shake she opted for instead of the same sugary caffeinated drink as her friend. The two decided a coffee date was needed after a long week of training for Moxie and a long week of studying for Jessica.
"I still don't understand why you choose to wake up this early to run and lift weights. It's not like if you waited a few hours after the sun was up it would affect any part of your workouts."
The tanned babe sighed and closed her eyes with her arms crossed over her chest. Moxie shook her head with a smile. After she decided to dip her toe into wrestling Jessica was one of the few friends who didn't abandon her. It was unfathomable that someone like Moxie, someone who was used to the easy life, could possibly want to put hard work into a profession like wrestling. But here she was, working out and training over the past few years to become a wrestler.
"I have other things to do during the day. Not all of us enjoy sleeping in till noon then spending all afternoon on the beach."
Sarcasm dripped from Moxie's lips as she smirked and took a sip of her protein shake. She wasn't a stranger to hard work, it was hard work that helped her climb the ladder at a law firm in her local town. It was hard work that got her through college Summa cum laude and high school with not one grade lower than an A. If Moxie ever came off cocky it was because she earned the right to be so.
"I still don't understand how you could ever be happy doing something that requires you to touch let alone acknowledge someone who likes being known as, what did you say his gimmick name was?"
"The Floridian Psychopath."
"Oh right, the armpit of America psychopath. As if calling yourself a psychopath wasn't social suicide enough you take pride in being a Floridian. Ew."
"And yet, you live here."
Moxie took another sip of her protein shake before readjusting her sports top. Making fun of Maddox was easy, there were so many things to make fun of. However, he was wayyy taller and wayyy heavier than her and she knew what that meant. If Moxie didn't watch it, she could seriously end up hurt or worse all because some idiot thought it was a good idea to put a BIG dummy against a small woman. So far, she wasn't impressed with this company.
"Only until I finish my internship and then it's goodbye bottom of the barrel humanity and hello-"
"Hello redneck backwoods bible belt. And you were shocked when I joined my first wrestling federation. I guess Maddox isn't the only mentally challenged one."
The two laughed and both took a sip of their drink.
"All jokes aside, no one could ever be worse than that Mastermind guy from XWF. I talked his wife in circles every promo and made both of them so infuriated. Then I was screwed out of my championship." Eye roll. "But I have this weird feeling that things here in OCW will be different. Some mentally ill man isn't going to stop me from getting what's mine, that Revival Championship."
"Who proudly claims to be a psychopath?"
"The same type of people who trauma dump into their work. Wrestling is a job, not therapy. I've lost count how many people in this business who think just because they are mental or had it hard they're going to be the next wrestling god. Maddox probably thinks just hurting people is enough to be a good wrestler, that calling himself a psychopath makes him scary. The scariest thing about him is how much grease is in his hair." Moxie shutters. "You know how guys have big trucks to make up for smaller packages? That's why Maddox says he's a psychopath, if it wasn't for the fact he tries to act "sadistic" he wouldn't have a job. Obviously he's too incompetent to carry a real job so wrestling is his only option. As long as he yells at the crowd and his opponent, licks his lips when he sees blood, and probably bashes on his own head acting mentally unstable he gets a paycheck and stays off the streets."
"Honestly, I can't stand people in this business who play the imitation card without having anything to back it up aside from a self proclaimed name. From what I've heard Maddox loses more than he wins so I guess being mentally unstable and a big fan of hurting people isn't exactly working for him. Not to mention it's really sad that someone who has wrestled so long also can't make it past a developmental roster onto the main roster."
Moxie takes a sip of her shake with a side eye. Like other jobs Moxie had in the past, she was going to rely more on hard work rather than titles or "favors" to climb that ladder to success. However, she would never be above cheating a little if she had to.
"I worry for you though because I know you won't worry about yourself."
"Don't worry, mental illness isn't contagious."
"That's not what I meant." Jessica rolls her eyes. "He's still a big guy who could literally flatten you like a pancake if he wanted to and I've seen those wrestling contracts, they do everything in their power to protect the company and not the employees. There is no way you can pick up 244 pounds of dead weight and knocking him over-"
"Thanks for caring but I've got it. One of the best things about big guys with anger and abuse issues is they just can't control themselves, meaning all I have to do is make him really mad and want to hurt me." Moxie smirks." Something I'm great at. If he is actually a psychopath he'll take care of the whole thing for me."
"And if not?"
"If not then there's always plan B."
"I'm still not sure I even like plan A." Jessica finishes off her coffee with a sigh. "If your big plan is to win by having him want to hurt you doesn't that take you out of the running for the championship you're gunning for? If you can't even get up after your match..."
Moxie nodded her head in agreement. Maybe Plan A wasn't exactly the best course to take. Afterall, if Maddox really wanted to hurt her he wouldn't necessarily have to use weapons of any sort, he could just use his hands. The word was Maddox liked to act sadistic though, which meant there was a high probability that if she made him mad enough he was going to cause a lot of pain in many different ways.
"I'll figure it out. At least I'm quick and if I can even just keep the match going long enough to tire him out I stand a better chance at winning without having to do much besides-"
"Run?" Jessica sounded like she was going to make a joke but chose not to instead.
"All I care about is getting past this match and getting into that Revival Championships match. If that means I run then yes, I run."
"Wow, sounds like one interesting match to watch."
Moxie rolled her eyes with annoyance. The people who were interested in this match are either grown men who get off to the sight of a woman being pinned against a giant retard with an anger problem or people who expect a wardrobe malfunction. There was no one in their right mind who believed Moxie had any chance in hell of winning this match.
"I guess whoever decided to put me in a match with someone I literally have zero chance of winning one on one should've thought about that before booking the match, huh." Moxie finishes off her protein shake and leans back in her seat. "Even if I lose, which lets be real there is a high chance of that happening, I'd rather be considered boring by a bunch of grown men in their mother's basements than have every bone in my body be broken and end up in hospital. There's going to be plenty of championship opportunities but if I end up having to take weeks off because some loser who couldn't even make the main roster can't control himself then I might as well give up now and not waste my time."
"Well, I know I can't stop you because I've already tried, but I still don't like you doing this whole wrestling thing."
"I know what I'm doing, don't worry, either way I'm walking out of this match and that alone is going to piss Maddox off so I'll get some sort of enjoyment out of the situation. Plus, if this match is boring maybe it will send a message to the booking team that they should really learn how to book a match that can be made interesting."
The two exchanged a few more sentences followed by a goodbye hug. Jessica was the first to leave while Moxie sat at the table watching Maddox matches that were posted on youtube.
Moxie sat on her bed in her hotel room. Freshly showered and enjoying a nice glass of wine she watched as her television lit up the room with more Maddox matches. She wanted to be someone in wrestling, she wanted to be a champion again. There was a feeling of accomplishment when she won a match and a high that she would ride until her next match. However, coming back to wrestling after being black listed for burning a championship in XWF was weighing on her heavily. It was bad enough that the only company willing to hire her had Outcasts in the name but now they had her going up against a massive guy she had zero chances of beating on her own. She couldn't help but wonder if this was in some way a set up, if they were trying to discourage her from staying on the roster. Her conversation with Jessica really didn't help matters much even thought the whole point of their "coffee" date was to encourage Moxie. Instead, Moxie found herself question her abilities and her place here in wrestling.
After yet another boring match of Maddox’s ended, Moxie sat her glass of wine on the nightstand next to the bed and laid back in her bed. Discouraged. How was she going to win this match? Yes, she had won against men who were taller, stronger, and heavier but she also had some sort of advantage she could use. This match was just your regular boring match, one pinfall, that's all. Everyone else had match stipulations that worked in their favor somehow, however, Moxie's match was just plain boring. The least booking could've done is had Maddox tie an arm behind him or blind fold him for the whole match, at least she could work with that.
After a long sigh Moxie sat up in her bed once again and pushed the next button starting yet another Maddox match on her television. She watched him make so many stupid mistakes and by the end there was no doubt in her mind that the only reason he held any contract was because of his size. However, this match gave her an idea. One of her biggest offensive tactics was to piss people off, make their blood boil, make them see red. Maybe this time, she wouldn't have to, she would just need Maddox to make a stupid move that she could capitalize on and after watching this match she knew he would do just that.
